The Three Act Structure - The Shining
Act I Jack, Wendy and Danny are travelling in a car. They’re going to a hotel that is closing down for the winter as caretakers. The characters and the hotel are introduced. Act II Danny starts seeing ghosts. Jack is being seduced by the dark side, he begins to see ghosts as well and starts acting strange. Wendy is oblivious to what is happening. Danny and Wendy realise that Jack is not well, they can do nothing about it. The weather gets worse and the hotel is cut off from the outside world by a snow storm (the obstacle). Act III Jack looses his mind and the ghosts take control. He intends to kill Wendy and Danny. They both try to escape his deranged mania. He fails to murder them, he dies, they escape.
