Rhetoric

Rhetoric is the art of effective persuasive speaking and writing, the art of discourse.
The goals are to convince the audience and communicate a message.

There are three main strategies of Rhetoric i.e:

  1. Pathos - Appeal to Emotion
  2. Logos - Information and Facts
  3. Ethos - Appeal to Credibility
Pathos

An emotional appeal, an attempt to evoke an emotional response in the audience. It uses sympathy and empathy. It convinces you to accept a claim based on how it makes you feel without rationalising. Highly manipulative.

Logos

A logical appeal to reason. Attempts to appeal to the intellect. Infirmation, statistics, facts, details.

Ethos

Tries to convince the audience that the creator of the message can be trusted. Experts, celebrities, everyday people.
